The UK is the heart of the world’s financial market, with unrivalled access to global markets. The UK retains the leading share in trading in many international financial markets, such as foreign exchange trading, cross border bank lending and international insurance services. Home to the London Stock Exchange, the world’s most international exchange, half of whose equities investors are based overseas, London is also the western centre for Islamic finance.

English trust law is the foundation for trust laws internationally and in recent years has been modernised. The English High Court is highly-regarded and the use of English law as the governing law of a trust is often a well-informed choice.

Trusts which are administered by an English trustee in conjunction with other trustees may be treated as either “onshore” or “offshore” for tax purposes, depending on the residence and domicile of the settlor of the trust at the time it was established or funded.  It is therefore possible to provide both tax resident UK trusts as well as offshore trusts with some administration being carried out in the UK in appropriate circumstances.

Our UK business, Summit Trust Company Ltd, is an English trust corporation and was established in 1962 as part of a merchant banking group. It joined the Summit Trust Group in 2004, and became part of our group in 2021.
